I'm extremely high when I did this mix something like 7 hours ago. The title somehow does not have any meaning whatsoever. It just sounded ridiculous, hence, I called it MY ONLY UMLAUT.

With the PRIVATE PKI CHRISTMAS (PANTS) PARTY happening this Saturday, I think its fitting to create a Pre-party party mix. You know, the mix you listen to when the party hasn't yet begun and you're just getting bored and stuff. So, that basically is the main idea.

So, I picked 21 songs. Yes, 21 songs because it's 6:21 PM right now. Oh, no... it's 6:22. Anyway, uhm, basically it's very random but I gave it some deep thinking (induced by uhm...) and decided that I should just pick some of like, crazy shit songs that I would like to hear as we're fixing stuff. So basically, the mix is bombarded with happy, or fast, or pulsing songs. No Christmas song here, folks. Oh okay, I slipped in one as a finale. It's kinda lame, but whatever it's my mix.

My Only Umlaut:
The Pre-Pants Party Party Mixtape

1. Dr. Strangeluv - Be The Boss
2. Johnny Foreigner - Sofa Core
3. Pavement - Kennel District
4. All-Time Quarterback - Dinner At Eight In The Suburbs
5. Giant Drag - Kevin Is Gay
6. The Appleseed Cast - Kilgore Trout
7. Elliott Smith - New Monkey
8. Eileen - Ces Bottes Sont Faites Pour Marcher
9. Eminem - Drug Ballad
10. The Brian Jonestown Massacre - Oh Lord
11. Polaris - Waiting for October
12. Neutral Milk Hotel - Holland, 1945
13. Fight Club - This Is Your Life
14. Apples in Stereo - 7 Stars
15. Hood - Norfolk
16. Glo-Worm - Friday, I'm in Love
17. Johnny Rebel - Nigger Hatin' Me
18. Mates of State - My Only Offer
19. Leaves of Lothorien - Everybody
20. I Heart Hiroshima - Punks
21. Eraserheads - Fruitcake

Basically, it's a mix of like mean ugly things like Johnny Rebel, to something cute like Polaris or Glo-Worms. Then you have what I'd like to call "Group Dynamics" songs. You know, like Leaves of Lothorien can like make everybody sing and dance, like bringing the entire crew together because it's Christmas and we're gonna wear pants.

I'm really tripping right now, so I guess if you're going to our PRIVATE party, then better listen to this pre-pants party party mix. YEY! You know, because it's fun. And I'm hungry.

gobck2dktchn #1: The Cute Indie Chick Mix

Since its all too hip to post e-mixtapes, then here's the series that I just started: gobck2dktchn. To start off this e-mixtape series, I thought it would be appropriate to make a mix with an all girl theme. And not just an all girl theme, but a cute indie chick theme. (gobck2dktchn? all girl theme? get it? n00b.)

If a girl made this mix herself I think I'll have no recourse but to hand her my balls. No, not really. But I would gladly sleep with them. Mix #5: "Something I Just Randomly Decided To Throw Together Because I'm Bored"

'Tis the season to be jolly. And yet, I got bored earlier today and decided to do another mix. Nothing out of the ordinary. Just decided to throw together some songs that I have been listening to a lot lately. Completely random... no themes. Come on, Montell Jordan, japanese punk, african garage rock, and Beatles-esque psych-pop in one compilation?

Oh, and about that Montell Jordan song. Since we are all in a festive mood (okay some aren't, but let me finish)... I have decided that every mix I make this month will feature Montell Jordan's "This Is How We Do It". Consider that my "You Give Love A Bad Name".

Track List
1. Anyways, lots of things came up on the band front and then my laptop got busted and stuff. But yes, the good ol' potpal is back in action and I have some new old music for you guys! Enjoy the teeth!

-----
Holiday

Holiday is a pop band from Connecticut. Sadly they are not active anymore, but still, we have some good music from them. Thank you guys.

Cafe Reggio is my favorite record at the moment, with it's catchy melodies and pretty good arrangements. Every song is, as we call them here in the teeth, "pop gems". For an American band, they don't sound American at all. They could very well be a British band.

Good for long drives or staying out on the porch on a Saturday afternoon.

Oh, and yes, I'm a sucker for pop hooks and Holiday has them in spades.

Epic. Fucking. He is gonna post some pretty righteous stuff in the coming future (2012), and with the rate this is going, he goddamn better! That my friends is Lois Maffeo, and together with Yoyo Recordings founder Pat Maley, built the band Courtney Love. The name is a mere coincidence.

They were a band from 1990-91 and after releasing three 7" singles and a bunch of compilation tracks, went their seperate ways. What they left us though are awesome inide pop gems.

Lois Maffeo then went and made a solo career as Lois and sometimes collaborated as a drummer and back-up for different people and bands. Wiki says she worked with Donna Dresch, Molly Neuman, Elliott Smith, Brendan Canty, Heather Dunn, Dub Narcotic Sound System, Red Stars Theory, etc etc etc. But I dunno, wiki might be lying. Won't be the first time. What I'm sure about is this: These singles are far better than the shit coming out these days. SO enjoy it. And when you hear her name attached to something (ie. The Olympia Film Festival) don't have second thoughts supporting her.

Courtney Love - Three 7" Singles

download here

========

Look how totally baked those dudes are! Righteous!

Now, these cats are July. And instead of writing something up I'll go copy pasta what it says on last.fm because I'm getting lazy:

July was a psychedelic rock group based in the U.K. They issued a self titled album in 1968 which is now a highly sought after rarity. A compilation of home demos, “The Second of July”, was issued in 1998. Tracks like “My Clown”, “Dandelion Seeds”, “Jolly Mary”, and “You Missed It All” are considered some of the better psychedelic songs of the era.

Catch all that? Then better get to it then brah. Just think The Beatles circa Magical Mystery Tour or Rubber Soul or one of those trippy albums they made. Its that good. DO IT.

download here

PS. Have I told you also that Ruby Mars plays drums in this? Punkers would know the name, but for the rest of you, homeboy played with Rocket From the Crypt, Hot Snakes, Black Heart Procession, and was the drummer of seminal band Clikatat Ikatowi. Yes. They also call their jamming into outerspace, "cosmic nodding." You should definetly pack a huge bowl when listening to this radass badboy.

If you're a fan of Black Sabbath or Japanese Psychedelia or both, then you're probably already listening to this. Well, not really, but I just recently got into them and think they're pretty ace. I know, I know, I'm late in the hipster-Pitchfork-bandwagon. I did definitely heard of them back then, I just didn't actually listen the first time. Should anyone care? No. On to the music!

As most people already know, The Fiery Furnaces are the oddball brother and sister duo of Matthew and Eleanor Friedberger, joined live by Jason Loewenstein (of Sebadoh fame), Bob D'Amico, and Michael Goodman. They're Brooklyn based but came from the suburbs of Chitown. They pump out weird indie music that's a feast to listen to. And I think I read somewhere that there's a rumor that Eleanor is going out with that Alex Kapranos dude of faggy Franz Ferdinand. Whatevs, it doesn't matter. Listen to their first album, Gallowsbird's Bark, and be caught on the Furnaces' awesome mishmash of lush goodness, original songwriting, dirty blues passages, and clever wordplay... back when they were yet to be affected by the buzz they got afterward.

Also I would like to add that Eleanor looks like a hot version of Feist. And our boy Matt has this strange John Mayer vibe going on. I fucking hate John Mayer.

The Fiery Furnaces - Gallowsbird's Bark

download here

Giant Drag

Surprise motherfucker! That's mostly directed to Francis, the dude running Enjoy the Teeth (amongst other things). I'm officially fulfilling my job as a contributor to this site, because quite frankly, I have zilch to do and my friend who was suppose to be here right now drinking and watching Frisky Dingo with me stood me up yet again (way to not answer your phone PJ, you cunt).

Anyway, enough of my trite meanderings. On to the music...

Ah Annie, how we love thee. Since I've been snooping around the interwebs (with no such luck) for Giant Drag's acoustic session in GTFU Radio (an awesome internet radio program with Annie... listen to that here) I thought why not share their Hearts and Unicorns album to the uninitiated.

First off, Giant Drag is Annie Hardy. It used to be Annie Hardy and Micah Calabrese, but Micah just recently quit the band. So its just Annie now. Giant Drag plays awesome music period, and tagging it with a lame as shit genre like nu-grunge or some other NME-ism would be a great disservice, it would be better if you listen to it yourself, then call me later thanking me because you just found a band that saved your life. Un-mopey indie rock that's in your face and not singing about "the new year" or "NYC" or all those other indie fag fanfare. Take for example their song YFLMD (You Fuck Like My Dad -- probably the best song title ever): a repetitive, distorted guitar that pierces during the verse, paired with sudden bursts of noise, both from Annie's guitar and Micah's drums and synth combo (you should see him do it, its really fucking good), it can only be described as "dancey," that is if your idea of dancing is filled with heroine needles. Junkie indie rock it is!

She was just recently been dropped from Interscope's faux indie label Kickball Records, and she's a better person because of it. Goes to show how major labels would fuck you in the ass the first chance they would get (sidenote: yes that's WOULD, because I'm sure as hell that they'll get the chance as soon as you sign your soul on that dotted line). Although, knowing Annie's stance against "piracy," I know she won't like you, the listener, to be getting her music through the internet "illegally." But hey, since she won't get paid for Giant Drag's major label debut (and hopefully, reassuringly, last) she won't be pissed if you download this indie gem off from this site. That is if you buy stuff off her hands in Giant Drag's ebay store. Or if you have deep pockets, you could totally donate money to the Giant Drag Relief Fund so she could make another album (an EP is on the works with the help of gracious fans, friends, enablers, etc.) and you know, eat. So go do that homeboy, I would, but I have zero bucks right now. Although, in my defense, I'm sending her an email right after I finish this post asking if she'll be cool with pesos rather than dollars. Yes, I'm serious. I actually support and help out bands that deserve to be helped. You better do the same. Let's help save rock and roll and save Giant Drag, and in turn, save ourselves.

PS. The hyperliterate mothereffers in the My Bloody Valentine forums were trashing GD because some backwards publications were comparing them to their beloved band-crush. No.1 if you're too much of a dickbrain to listen to NME then I'm pretty sure you don't know jack shit about anything. And no.2, you deserve to be shot in the face. Multiple times.

PPS. There's a surprise once you finished dl-ing that shit, so get to it! Oh and remember to click on those links for GD's ebay store and relief fund and spend money when you do so. The download link isn't actually mine btw, so if ever the link dies, just leave a comment or something. I'll re-up it. I'm just too lazy to up it now myself.

download here

The Apples In Stereo

Ahhhh, today is a very special day. He crafts catchy instrumental pop gems that work well even though they have no vocals. Bordering on post-rock, the songs have enough hooks behind the dreamy soundscapes to satisfy any lover of pop music. This is the kind of music you would want to listen to during a road trip, or a day at the park.

I will post one of the two EPs here, and yes, I have persmission from the man himself. You could also download it for free on his myspace. Listen to the music. Add him as a friend. I'm sure he'll appreciate it. Who knows, he might make a song about you.

Love In Athens - We're Always Just About To Leave EP

download

-----

The Birthday Party

Nick Cave is probably one of the best storytellers alive today. From his stuff with Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, to his solo-cum-Bad Seeds spin-off Grinderman, and to his screenplay for the amazing film "The Proposition". His stories about life, love, death, redemption. always hit a chord with listeners, readers, and viewers. This is the stuff he did before forming the Bad Seeds. Good stuff. The music, abrasive and dark, fits with Cave's songwriting. Definitely far from the Bad Seeds stuff, but the same vision and is just as good. This band is definitely one in a million. The best post-punk band ever, in my opinion. Cave, amazing guitarist Rowland S. Howard, multi-instrumentalist and Bad Seed Mick Harvey, the late Tracy Pew, and drummer Phil Calvert... the main men. Geniuses in their own right. We will never see another band like them ever again. So this is what having a mental breakdown sounds like.

The Birthday Party - Prayers On Fire

download

buy

watch The Birthday Party performing on Dutch TV
