MY ONLY UMLAUT: The Pre-Pants Party Party Mixtape

Haroo-prease, its my first time to contribute here so please be gentle as you enter my hol--I mean soul. I'm extremely high when I did this mix something like 7 hours ago. The title somehow does not have any meaning whatsoever. It just sounded ridiculous, hence, I called it MY ONLY UMLAUT.

With the PRIVATE PKI CHRISTMAS (PANTS) PARTY happening this Saturday, I think its fitting to create a Pre-party party mix. You know, the mix you listen to when the party hasn't yet begun and you're just getting bored and stuff. So, that basically is the main idea.

So, I picked 21 songs. Yes, 21 songs because it's 6:21 PM right now. Oh, no... it's 6:22. Anyway, uhm, basically it's very random but I gave it some deep thinking (induced by uhm...) and decided that I should just pick some of like, crazy shit songs that I would like to hear as we're fixing stuff. So basically, the mix is bombarded with happy, or fast, or pulsing songs. No Christmas song here, folks. Oh okay, I slipped in one as a finale. It's kinda lame, but whatever it's my mix.

My Only Umlaut:
The Pre-Pants Party Party Mixtape

1. Dr. Strangeluv - Be The Boss
2. Johnny Foreigner - Sofa Core
3. Pavement - Kennel District
4. All-Time Quarterback - Dinner At Eight In The Suburbs
5. Giant Drag - Kevin Is Gay
6. The Appleseed Cast - Kilgore Trout
7. Elliott Smith - New Monkey
8. Eileen - Ces Bottes Sont Faites Pour Marcher
9. Eminem - Drug Ballad
10. The Brian Jonestown Massacre - Oh Lord
11. Polaris - Waiting for October
12. Neutral Milk Hotel - Holland, 1945
13. Fight Club - This Is Your Life
14. Apples in Stereo - 7 Stars
15. Hood - Norfolk
16. Glo-Worm - Friday, I'm in Love
17. Johnny Rebel - Nigger Hatin' Me
18. Mates of State - My Only Offer
19. Leaves of Lothorien - Everybody
20. I Heart Hiroshima - Punks
21. Eraserheads - Fruitcake

Basically, it's a mix of like mean ugly things like Johnny Rebel, to something cute like Polaris or Glo-Worms. Then you have what I'd like to call "Group Dynamics" songs. You know, like Leaves of Lothorien can like make everybody sing and dance, like bringing the entire crew together because it's Christmas and we're gonna wear pants.

I'm really tripping right now, so I guess if you're going to our PRIVATE party, then better listen to this pre-pants party party mix. YEY! You know, because it's fun. And I'm hungry.

gobck2dktchn #1: The Cute Indie Chick Mix

Since its all too hip to post e-mixtapes, then here's the series that I just started: gobck2dktchn. To start off this e-mixtape series, I thought it would be appropriate to make a mix with an all girl theme. And not just an all girl theme, but a cute indie chick theme. (gobck2dktchn? all girl theme? get it? n00b.)

If a girl made this mix herself I think I'll have no recourse but to hand her my balls. No, not really. But I would gladly sleep with them. Which brings me to my next point: when will this blog get me laid?

Tracklist:
1. The Pipettes - Feminist Complaints (demo)
2. Piana - Norway
3. Audrey - The Sliver
4. Glo-Worm - Friday I'm in Love
5. Sister Vanilla - Pastel Blue
6. Moonpools & Caterpillars - Trampling Rose
7. The Kills - Sour Cherry
8. Lau Nau - Maapahkinapuu

16. Dining With the Bolsheviks - Empty Malakai
17. Liz Phair - Fuck and Run

[note: Don't bitch about the "indie" tag. "That's not indie!" Yeah, I heard it all before champ. Keep it in your damn pants.]

Screw Popstars! Mix #5: "Something I Just Randomly Decided To Throw Together Because I'm Bored"

'Tis the season to be jolly. And yet, I got bored earlier today and decided to do another mix. Nothing out of the ordinary. Just decided to throw together some songs that I have been listening to a lot lately. Completely random... no themes. Come on, Montell Jordan, japanese punk, african garage rock, and Beatles-esque psych-pop in one compilation?

Oh, and about that Montell Jordan song. Since we are all in a festive mood (okay some aren't, but let me finish)... I have decided that every mix I make this month will feature Montell Jordan's "This Is How We Do It". Consider that my "You Give Love A Bad Name".

Track List
1. Montell Jordan (okay tomi I will humor you... Montell JORDON) - This Is How We Do It
2. Guitar Wolf - Summertime Blues
3. Docteur Nico & African Fiesta - Save Me
4. Singapore Sling - Life Is Killing My Rock and Roll
5. Spacemen 3 - Losing Touch With My Mind
6. Mellow Drunk - Where The Time Goes
7. Slowchange Madagascar - Forever I Love You
8. The Seahorses - I Want You To Know
9. Bo Carter - Blue Runner Blues
10. Masters Of The Hemisphere - The Sun In The Afternoon
11. The Moon - Mothers And Fathers
12. Floor - Hey, Mr. Flowermann
13. The Aerovons - Everything's Alright
14. Great Lakes - This Will Be Our Year

Holiday

Been a while since I posted. Anyways, lots of things came up on the band front and then my laptop got busted and stuff. But yes, the good ol' potpal is back in action and I have some new old music for you guys! Enjoy the teeth!

-----
Holiday

Holiday is a pop band from Connecticut. Sadly they are not active anymore, but still, we have some good music from them. Thank you guys.

Cafe Reggio is my favorite record at the moment, with it's catchy melodies and pretty good arrangements. Every song is, as we call them here in the teeth, "pop gems". For an American band, they don't sound American at all. They could very well be a British band.

Good for long drives or staying out on the porch on a Saturday afternoon.

Oh, and yes, I'm a sucker for pop hooks and Holiday has them in spades.

Epic. Fucking. Win.

As you can tell, this has been a long overdue post. I am now officially back. Thanks Tomi for picking up the slack.

Your Psych Tunes Vol.6 - Last Night the Flowers Bloomed

Here's the deal kids: Our band-slash-cult (yes, me and Cici are in this band called The Love Chariot--and yes this is somewhat of a shameless self-promotion) was contacted to be part of this free online compilation by Your Psychedelic Tunes sometime late last month, and now that comp. is out like a closet homo.

Along for the ride are the psychedelic scene's underground merchants of righteousness around the world. People like Al Hotchkiss, The Chemistry Set, Serpentina Satelite, King Suffy Generator, Enormous, Heavy Water Experiments... just to name a few. Rest assured that these cats are made of awesome and would blow your mind to outerspace.

The song of ours in the comp would be part of our upcoming self-titled EP that would be out before the year ends or early next year, do keep your ears peeled for that one duders. So now, download that shit, sit back, smoke a joint, and watch the kaleidoscopes cascade into the neon night. BOOSH!

PS. Check out the other volumes. Awesome stuff.

A double post: Courtney Love and July

Yes, I'm posting two bands that rule because Cici is being a slacker, or at least his internet connection is (except when it comes to the latest Gossip Girl episodes, hell yeah). Shit he uploads won't come through for the team and so I'm picking up the ball. He is gonna post some pretty righteous stuff in the coming future (2012), and with the rate this is going, he goddamn better! Ok, now that I stopped pretending that anyone reads this shit...

Someone fast enough would notice that girl in the picture is not The Widow, the crack addict that killed Kurt--allegedly. That my friends is Lois Maffeo, and together with Yoyo Recordings founder Pat Maley, built the band Courtney Love. The name is a mere coincidence.

They were a band from 1990-91 and after releasing three 7" singles and a bunch of compilation tracks, went their seperate ways. What they left us though are awesome inide pop gems.

Lois Maffeo then went and made a solo career as Lois and sometimes collaborated as a drummer and back-up for different people and bands. Wiki says she worked with Donna Dresch, Molly Neuman, Elliott Smith, Brendan Canty, Heather Dunn, Dub Narcotic Sound System, Red Stars Theory, etc etc etc. But I dunno, wiki might be lying. Won't be the first time. What I'm sure about is this: These singles are far better than the shit coming out these days. SO enjoy it. And when you hear her name attached to something (ie. The Olympia Film Festival) don't have second thoughts supporting her.

========

Look how totally baked those dudes are! Righteous!

Now, these cats are July. And instead of writing something up I'll go copy pasta what it says on last.fm because I'm getting lazy:

July was a psychedelic rock group based in the U.K. They issued a self titled album in 1968 which is now a highly sought after rarity. A compilation of home demos, “The Second of July”, was issued in 1998. Tracks like “My Clown”, “Dandelion Seeds”, “Jolly Mary”, and “You Missed It All” are considered some of the better psychedelic songs of the era.

Catch all that? Then better get to it then brah. Just think The Beatles circa Magical Mystery Tour or Rubber Soul or one of those trippy albums they made. Its that good. DO IT.

PS. AND YOU'RE WELCOME ERIC.

Earthless

Do you listen to Earthless? Why the hell not? Get with the program!

I'll post a video, but 20 minute psychedelic stoner jams are like, I dunno, not backed by youtube. Lamezzz. Have I told you also that Ruby Mars plays drums in this? Punkers would know the name, but for the rest of you, homeboy played with Rocket From the Crypt, Hot Snakes, Black Heart Procession, and was the drummer of seminal band Clikatat Ikatowi. Yes. They also call their jamming into outerspace, "cosmic nodding." You should definetly pack a huge bowl when listening to this radass badboy.

If you're a fan of Black Sabbath or Japanese Psychedelia or both, then you're probably already listening to this. If not, then you're failing in life.

Click here and melt your mind.
